Problems importing or downloading a file

What to do when a file won't import, when rows are missing from your results, or when the downloaded file doesn't open well.

Written by Thomas Lucy

Most import problems come from the file itself: use a real CSV, XLS or XLSX file, with column names in the first row. If your results have fewer rows than your file, check the duplicate rows and the result filter of your export.

Your file won't import

  • Check the format. Enrow accepts CSV, XLS and XLSX files. Renaming a file (for example from .csv to .xlsx) doesn't change its format: open it in your spreadsheet app and save it in the right format. Apple Numbers files must be exported to CSV or XLSX first. From Google Sheets, use File > Download.

  • Check the first row. It must contain the names of your columns.

  • Check the sheet. In an Excel file, only the first sheet is read.

  • Check the preview. If all your data appears in one column, your CSV file is not split correctly. Save it as XLSX and upload it again.

  • Reload the page, or log out and log back in, then try again.

If it still doesn't work, send your file to [email protected].

The import screen shows a warning

Enrow checks your columns before you start. A message such as "values don't look like valid domains" or "look like LinkedIn URLs — did you map the wrong column?" usually means a column is matched to the wrong field. Choose the right column, or fix your file and upload it again. See How to prepare your file for a bulk search.

Your results have fewer rows than your file

  • Duplicate rows were removed. When Delete duplicate rows is checked (it is by default), rows with the same person, the same LinkedIn URL or the same email address are processed only once. The app tells you how many duplicate rows were removed when you launch the file.

  • A result filter is on. If your File Output Settings are set to Valid only or Found only, the rows without a result are not in your file. Choose All results and download the file again.

If neither explains the difference, write to [email protected] with the name of your file.

The downloaded file doesn't open well

  • All the data is in one column, or accents look broken in Excel: Enrow's CSV files use commas and UTF-8 encoding, and Excel sometimes reads them badly. In File Output Settings, choose XLSX, then download the file again. You can also open the CSV file in Google Sheets.

  • The file is empty or almost empty: check the Result filter in File Output Settings. For example, Valid only on a file with few valid results gives a very short file.

A large file won't download

  1. Reload the page (Ctrl+F5 on Windows, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac), then click the file in the Output column again.

  2. If it still fails, write to [email protected] with the name of your file.

Very large files are slower to download. Next time, split your list into smaller files: 20,000 rows at most for the Email Finder and the Phone Finder, ideally 5,000 to 10,000.

Report a problem

  1. Click ? at the top right of the app.

  2. Click Suggestion / Report a Bug, then Report a Bug.

  3. Describe the problem. You can attach a screenshot.

  4. Click Submit.

To send a file, email it to [email protected].
